Sight words

Here is a list of words that your child should practice reading at home every day!! They should be able to recognize and read all these words by the end of the term.

You can play a game and write these words on little pieces of paper and have your child pick one at a time and read it out loud. Save these flash cards and practice every day! We will be adding more words soon!

Numbers and counting

Many children learn the numbers by heart. They can count to 30, 40 and even higher perfectly. But recognizing these numbers is the challenge. When you practice numbers and counting with your children at home, make sure to mix up the numbers and you can also reverse roles where you say a number and your child has to write down this number. If your daughter has mastered this, start to count backwards (20, 19, 18, ....) and also by two (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, .....).You will see, it is not always easy! Good luck!

English alphabet and sounds

This is a video that we listen to in the classroom and the girls love it. Each letter in the English alphabet produces a specific sound. Practice these sounds with your children and they will read in no time! Make sure they know the difference between the name of the letter and the sound this letter makes. Have fun!

Ps. Please note that the video did not include the letter Q. This letter has the same sound as C and K.
